Cost
For most orthodontists, the main advantage of reuse is economic since it reduces overhead costs, and overhead amounts to up to 60% of all office costs. While all attachments can be reused, only the best attachments actually may be worth recycling. Reusable brackets, made of better steels that can stand both mechanical stresses and corrosion, can lower the initial purchase cost from nearly $5 to as low as $0.5, and the service cost for reuse to about $0.10 each. Our highest prices for reusable brackets sold are $1.40 each for direct bonding tubes, and $1.30 for mini brackets with hooks.
Our highest prices for brackets processed "quality", separated and returned is $0.30, and the lowest $0.10 ("economy", over 1000). In both cases, the attachments are individually inspected and sorted.
